Post-Concussion Rehab

Feel Better, Move Better, and Perform Better.

A Concussion Is More Than "Just Hit Your Head."

And waiting it out in a dark room is no longer the recommended approach.

What Most People Do After a Concussion

You go to the ER or your doctor. They rule out anything serious, tell you to rest, avoid screens, and follow up if symptoms get worse. And that's it. You go home and wait.

For some people that's enough. But for many — especially athletes, active adults, and kids — symptoms linger longer than they should. Headaches. Brain fog. Dizziness. Feeling off but not being able to explain exactly how. Cleared to return to activity but not feeling anything close to normal.

Here's what most people aren't told: physical therapy can play a significant role in concussion recovery. And the earlier you start, the better your outcomes tend to be.

Does This Sound Familiar?

You or someone you love has had a concussion and:

🔴 Symptoms are lingering longer than expected and you're not sure what to do next.

🔴 You've been cleared to return to play or normal activity but something still feels off.

🔴 You're dealing with headaches, dizziness, brain fog, or neck pain that won't fully go away.

🔴 You left the doctor's office without a real plan and you're not sure who to turn to.

Early Intervention Changes the Outcome

The research is clear: getting the right treatment early after a concussion leads to faster recovery and reduces the risk of post-concussion syndrome — the term for symptoms that drag on for months when the injury isn't properly addressed.

You don't have to wait until you're still struggling weeks later to seek help. In fact, we'd rather see you before it gets to that point.

At 901PT, our concussion specialist will evaluate you thoroughly and build an individualized treatment plan based on exactly what your brain and body need, not a one-size-fits-all protocol.

A Comprehensive Plan Built Around You

No two concussions are the same. Symptoms, severity, and recovery timelines vary widely from person to person, which is why a thorough evaluation comes first. From there, your plan may include any combination of the following based on what we find:

Vestibular Rehabilitation

If you're experiencing dizziness, balance problems, or feeling unsteady, the vestibular system — which controls your sense of balance and spatial orientation — may be affected. Vestibular rehab uses specific exercises to retrain that system and reduce those symptoms.

Vision and Eye Movement Therapy

Concussions frequently affect how the eyes track and work together. If you're experiencing difficulty reading, sensitivity to screens, or trouble focusing, oculomotor therapy can help retrain those pathways.

Cervical Spine Treatment

The neck is almost always involved in a concussion, whether from the impact itself or the whiplash effect. Treating the cervical spine can significantly reduce headaches and other lingering symptoms that people often assume are purely neurological.

Graded Return to Activity

Getting back to sport, work, or school too fast — or too slow — can both set recovery back. We'll build a structured, progressive return-to-activity plan that pushes you forward at the right pace for your brain and your goals.

Who We Help

Our concussion program is appropriate for athletes at any level who have sustained a sports-related concussion, adults experiencing post-concussion symptoms after any type of head injury, and parents looking for specialized care for a child or teenager who isn't bouncing back the way they expected.

Whether you're one week out from your injury or several months in and still not feeling right, we can help.

What Your First Visit Looks Like

Your first session is 60 minutes, one-on-one with our concussion specialist — a Doctor of Physical Therapy with specific training in concussion rehabilitation. We'll go deep on your history, your symptoms, and how you're functioning day to day. Then we'll conduct a thorough evaluation that may include balance testing, eye movement assessment, cervical spine evaluation, and more.

You'll leave your first visit with a clear understanding of what's going on, why your symptoms are happening, and exactly what we're going to do about it. Most patients tell us it's the first time anyone has actually explained their concussion to them in a way that made sense.

From there, we build your individualized recovery plan and get to work.

Don't Wait for Symptoms to Become Chronic

The window right after a concussion is when intervention matters most. If you or someone you love has recently had a concussion, or is still dealing with symptoms that won't go away, reach out. A free 15-minute call with our team is the easiest first step.

So much I could say about 901PT! What a gift this place is to the community of Memphis. I have experienced many other PT clinics and no one has ever been as knowledge, personable, passionate and intentional as this group.

I’m thankful for and impressed with the preparation and steps Jessica takes from the moment I walk in. Her initial assessments seem to uncover what’s really happening at not only the painful places but subtle other locations involved. Every exercise she gives me helps.
